Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has congratulated renowned writer and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on his 90th birthday, describing him as a global icon and a Nigerian patriot of the highest standard.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, on July 13, 2024, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Soyinka’s literary works, political activism, and contributions to Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that Soyinka’s Nobel Prize win in 1986 was a testament to his creative ability and a validation of his status as a prodigy of erudition.
The Governor also commended Soyinka’s role in the June 12 struggle and Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, saying his sacrifices have left an indelible mark on the country’s history. He expressed gratitude to Soyinka for bringing glory and honor to Nigeria and Africa, describing him as a citizen of the world who has made significant contributions to literature and politics.
Governor Aiyedatiwa wished Soyinka many more years of achievements and contributions to humanity as he begins his journey as a nonagenarian.
