Naval men have allegedly gone on rampage in Idoani, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state, on Monday, over the killing of one of their colleagues.

TheReports gathered that military men had stormed the agrarian community in search of those behind the killing of their colleague and had degenerated to a more worrisome situation, which led to the shutting down of shops and market places.

Most young men in the community have fled the area over fear of arrest while many residents were reportedly worried over the development as colleagues of the deceased officer allegedly threatened to avenge his death.

According to a source in the community,  the naval officer, who was driving along the road in the community, reportedly splashed water on a motorcycle passenger while trying to avoid potholes on the road.

The deceased was said to have parked and apologized to the motorcyclist who commands a sizable number of thugs in the community but the man, identified as Ayo, refused to listen to all the pleas from the naval officer.

The Okada rider, however, was said to have called some hoodlums in the town who invaded the scene and hit the naval officer with an iron rod on his head, losing consciousness

The naval officer was said to have been rushed to the general hospital in the town but gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor.

The Okada rider was apprehended and handed over to police in the town while one of the thugs who hit the deceased with the iron was said to have taken to his heels to avoid being arrested.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident said: “one Sunday Olaoluwa of Iyayu quarters, Idoani reported that his friend, a navy personnel attached to Navy Secondary School, Imeri by name Akingbohun M., was attacked by a six-man mob led by one ‘Oyibo’ due to an altercation that arose from a minor motorcycle-pedestrian accident.

Meanwhile, the local government chairman has condemned the killing of the naval officer, describing it as gruesome.

The council boss, Dennis Adekunle, in a statement he signed and made available to TheReports called for calm while urging the navy to apply minimum force in looking for those involved in the killing, in the interest of peace.
