GOV AIYEDATIWA APPROVES PAYMENT OF BURSARY, SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

  • Student leaders declare support for gov, promise to shun protests

The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday approved the payment of bursaries and scholarships to the students of the state origin in tertiary institutions and the Nigerian Law Schools.

The Governor made the disclosure while addressing a students stakeholders meeting held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, the state capital.

The student leaders included officers of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), National Female Students Association and indigenous student associations in the State.

While responding to some of the requests of the student leaders, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the process for the payment of the bursaries and scholarships had begun and would be completed in a few weeks to begin disbursement.

Other issues addressed by the Governor included provision of buses for student bodies, enhancement of electricity supply and security on campuses, employment opportunities and polling units on campuses.

The Governor said his administration will continue to give priority attention to the education sector and issues of welfare of students and youths.

Thanking the students on the state for conducting themselves in peaceful manner, Governor Aiyedatiwa promised to look into all other requests of the student leaders with a view to addressing them in the shortest period of time.

Earlier, in a unified message, the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), represented by its President, Hammed Oyelade,
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ondo State Chapter, represented by Abiola Victor; the National Association of University Students, represented by Akerele Greatness; the Student Union Government presidents from all tertiary institutions in the State, represented by Adegoriola Abejoye; and Babatunde Excel, speaking for students across the 18 local government areas, had highlighted several pressing issues but emphasized their support for the Governor, promising not to be part of any planned protests in the State.
