An overspeeding motorist suspected to be an internet fraudster (yahoo boy) has killed a secondary school girl in Obaile, Akure north local government area of Ondo state.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, saw a Lexus car hitting and immediately killing an SS 3 student of Alagbaka Secondary School simply identified as Glory.

The driver of the car was said to have lost control before crushing the teenager, who was said to be returning from school, to death at the second gate junction in Obaile.

An eye witness said the car somersaulted several times before it caught fire due to the heavy impact of the crash.

The eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned said “the boy is one of the ‘yahoo boys’ in this area who newly got a vehicle. His speed was too much and I think he lost control of the vehicle.

“The car hit the girl immediately she alighted from a taxi and dragged her to that place before it somersaulted to the other side of the road where it later caught fire.

“Before the vehicle went up in flames, some of his colleagues quickly rescued him and his girlfriend that was also in the car with him to an unknown hospital as he was really injured.

“It is high time the government tackled the issue of reckless driving by these young boys in town, whose source of money is unknown, before they kill us all” the witness added.

Men of the Nigerian Police mobilized to the scene and evacuated the body of the teenager to the morgue.

It took the combined efforts of men of the Nigerian army, the police and road safety corps to douse tension in the area as angry youths wanted to block the road and were seen sending motorists back before the security men intervened.
