…appeals to residents to make healthy environment a priority
Ondo State government has expressed dismay at the way some residents don’t care about a healthy environment, thus not keeping their surroundings clean.
Commissioner for environment, Sunday Akinwalire, who expressed government’s displeasure, said despite government’s efforts to make the state cleaner, some residents are found in the habit of deliberately sabotaging the process.
As usual, the September edition of monthly environmental sanitation was with heavy supervision as the monitoring team led by the commissioner for environment, Sunday Akinwalire went round Akure metropolis to monitor compliance.
At the various locations visited, some residents were seen cleaning their sorroundings, while others wondered around, refusing to take part in the exercise.
Akinwalire while addressing some residents of Tippers garage, Akure, said they can not continue to sabotage government efforts at keeping the state neat.
Appreciating those who took part in the exercise, the commissioner warned residents of the state to always complement government’s efforts by cleaning their surroundings, noting that anyone who refuses to do so will face the wrath of the law.
The general manager, Ondo State Waste Management Agency, Adefola Omowole, who wondered why some residents treat their environment with levity, said dirty environment is dangerous to human health.
Director National Orientation Agency, NOA, Adelayo Adefolalu, said she is disappointed that some people still don’t know the value of a healthy environment despite the agency’s continued awareness exercise on the dangers.
Others urged Ondo state residents to regularly clean their surroundings to avert danger of outbreak of diseases.
