The Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Media, Research and Documentation, Olubukola Maha, has charged relevant stakeholders on the need to take awareness of proper Menstrual Hygiene to every nook and cranny of the state.

The governor’s aide, popularly known as ‘Adunni Onigege Ara’, made the plea as she joined girls of Ilaje High School, Igbokoda and Royal line Academy, Igbokoda to mark this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene day.

Adunni, while creating awareness for a period friendly world, said: “safer and healthier menstrual health is the key to a strong and higher self esteem”.

Miss Maha gave out free sanitary pads to hundreds of students in the schools to mark this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene day.

She described the event as a very interesting outing, as the girls showed dedication towards improving their Menstrual hygiene.

The girls in Ilaje High School confessed that Adunni’s intervention is the first of its kind in the community, with a commitment to ensure proper hygiene during their monthly flow.

Maha appreciated those that made the programme a reality, including Atibere Sikemi, Anita Imperia, Princess Omolade, Tomomewo Shemmy Favour and Beauty Modimu.

She promised to make available a Pad bank in the nearest future as she advised them to “have a clean and safe period and discourage the use of rags for periods while we create awareness for cheaper and affordable sanitary pads”.

The principal of the school, Mr Iwaluwa, commended the initiative, saying it was the first time such is happening in their school.

He said the initiative will go a long way in helping the students to focus more on their hygiene and spur them to educate people around them.
