Residents of Uso community in Owo local government area of Ondo state have called on the federal government and the governments of Ondo and Ekiti states to, as a matter of urgency, see to the reconstruction of the road linking Uso and Ise-Ekiti in Ekiti state.

This “Save our Soul” appeal was made at an economic summit where eminent personalities gathered to take stock of the development in the town.

The gathering submitted that Uso, an agrarian community located about 15km to Ise in Ekiti state, ought to have a good road network for her agriculture products to get to various markets within their reach.

In a communique issued at the end of the summit and signed by Mr. Niran Abitogun, Head of Media, Uso media Hub, the community enjoined the federal government to “as a matter of necessity, reconstruct this road for the benefit of farmers and commuters traveling to Abuja, the federal capital”.

“This link Road is the shortest route for travellers going to Abuja from Akure, instead of passing through Akoko land.

“Also, it will open up the economic interaction between Ondo state and Ekiti state from this axis.

“The road, which was constructed in 1979 by the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), headed by Alhaji Shehu Shagari as president, and the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) regime of Late Chief Adekunle Ajasin as the executive governor of the state, has been totally abandoned by successive regimes.

“We call on the federal government to extend its rural road transformation policy to include this Uso- Ise Ekiti road so that development can get nearer to the grassroots” the communique concluded.
